Twelve Weeks Down and Three Years Married

We had a wonderful mother’s day on Sunday. We took the family out to Waterway Cafe and enjoyed some seafood and watching the rain pour down in to the inter coastal. I was even thought of when the hubs gave me a certificate for a Mani and Pedi at the spa at his hotel. I’ve been complaining that my feet are so rough all of a sudden and the dear man remembered :) .

Today is out three year wedding anniversary and the hubs is at jury duty. He did give me one of my gifts last night though and he went to a store and bought me an outfit. Of course the maternity pants will not fit my butt. I don’t have any luck when I shop either, but the shirt was beautiful. I’ll wear it for our three year picture :) . Happy Anniversary dear! I still love you as much as I did when I married you, if not more. You’ll be a great dad.

On to the baby updates.

May 2013 Already

I’ve been slacking. I’ve been busy. We went up to visit my parents last weekend and when we came back I took my prenatal and was sick in bed immediately. And then Sunfest began, though it has been rather wet until now. I will get back to updating on Little Bug’s progress, especially after a great doctor’s appointment yesterday where Dr, found a strong 170 bpm heartbeat.

Week 10

It seems as though my hair is getting really long with each and every passing week too. I think I will have to grow it out into a bob or I’ll never keep up with it.

Surprise

I haven’t been blogging because I have had no energy to do anything crafty in the least. I’ve barely had the energy to clean the house. I really haven’t been cleaning the house, just doing the bare minimum. I could not figure out why I just kept falling asleep at first, but I suppose I had a great reason. A good reason and a new reason to blog. There’s a bun in the oven.

Since I’m still tired, I’ll just share my progression this month and let that do the talking.

Baby Bump

My normal little pudge.

Feeling the bloat.

And even fuller.... getting hard to hide.

Rose Bush Painting

It has been a busy weekend, but I rather fun and productive and creative one. My husband and I had a date to a pottery painting studio on Sunday which was fun, followed by visiting Irish fest to get inspiration for next weekend’s party. A fun Sunday and whole day with my husband, which is rare with his random schedule.

The fun started on Saturday though. Let me back track. At the beginning of the year I hand painted a mailbox to go in my school’s front lobby.

Mailbox

Since then my boss has been suggesting that I paint a mural on her living room wall. I always said I would, but with busy schedules I did not take it too seriously, and would someone really want me to paint on their wall? I am my own critic and I don’t think my painting is good enough to be so permanent. You could always paint over your wall but it’s tad bit more permanent then  a mailbox that you can simply remove.

Well, last week she asked me if I was free on Saturday to come over. Suddenly it was real and I had to start sketching ideas and getting the right paint colors. Still seemed weird but I was game.

I brought my box of paints and brushes and sat on the blanket in front of her wall. I do not draw took I loaded my sponge and went straight for the pot. I changed to a brush after that.  Here was the base that I laid out;

After the browns I added the greenery in the background and then on top of that her favorite flowers. When I paint my flowers I use Donna Dewberry’s One Stoke technique. I have never been to a class, but I used to watch her PBS show and taught myself when I was in high school. I was also lucky enough to know an artist who knew her and gave me a box full of her books and equipment. The technique is all about loading two colors on the brush (or sponge in the case of the pot). This way you get the base color and the highlight in… well ‘One Stroke’.

I am pretty proud of how it turned out. I would paint someone else’s wall if they asked. It would be a fun side business for some extra spending cash. Perhaps for now, I need to visit thrift stores and buy cheap items to decorate on and sell. Samples of what I could do.

Organized a Closet

We suffer with the ‘not enough storage’ home disease and it does not help that I like clothes and have oodles of art supplies. I don’t know what will happen when we have a baby and I have to give up my storage room. It might have to sleep in the closet so I can use the rest of the room. Just kidding. It’s time to work on our closets.

I moved in almost three years ago (oh my we’ve been married that long?). The walls have all been painted and we finally have the house fully furnished now that we got the last piece, a dining room table. The house feels like us but it still needs so much. We fixed the bedroom closets as soon as I moved in, but the weight of my continually growing wardrobe is making the plaster peel and the brackets weaken on our closet and we have got to tackle it soon before I buy a new dress and it makes it topple. That project is going to take money though so it’s time to start saving.

Since we have to do some savings to fixed our bedroom closet, I decided I have to tackle at least one of our storage foes, the bathroom closet. Look at this mess. It houses everything that doesn’t fit in the bathroom and the bathroom does not fit much.

IMG_3778Everything is just on a shelf and whenever I need my hairdryer the cord will wrap around some bottles and pull them down. I haven’t used my beach towels since the summer so they’ve slowly found the way to the floor. Olly sleeps in front of it and it seems that her hair collects under the door. Smelly!

IMG_3779When the stuff is just on the shelves I have no idea what is there and stuff ends up not being used or I buy things again because we can’t find them. That’s a waste of money and I do not like wasting money.

I bought a few storage containers and lots of little ones for inside my drawers and took everything out and spread it on my living room floor. (I should have taken a picture of that). Organizing the drawers meant I could take more items of the shelves and make room so my towels don’t fall on the floor.

IMG_3782 Closed bins means I can stack open baskets on top for the taller items. My little black bathroom shelf can keep the toilet paper organized. We are out of toilet paper though, thanks to Marmalade using it at his play toy. All the medicine is in the cabinet and there is nothing that is expired.

All my towels are being washed since it is beach season and I went this weekend. Since the floor is clear I can clean up the dog hair that slips under but to prevent any dog odor from affecting my towels I put in a jar of baking soda with about 6 drops of orange essential oils. It smells great. Every time I get a towel I shake that little container a little and make the smell even fresher.

There is an identical closet on the other side of the bathroom that should just be the linen closet but also has my clothes and purses in it. I need to do the same to that closet. Next project maybe?

Secret Granny Project

I took a break from my little blue and purple spread. Well actually I am done with all the squares and it is already on the foot of the bed as a runner. I just need to add and border and it’s taken be a while to figure out what type I want to do. I think I’ve finally found one but I’m already heavy into a fun blanket so I will go back to it.

I’ve been really excited to do this blanket as soon as I saw a pattern for a completely different blanket. The idea just hit me and my husband will love it and it’s perfect for my novice crocheting skills since it is made of granny squares. I want to work on different patterns so I used a granny square that I had pinned for this purpose. I am still having trouble reading crochet patterns so I just recreated it from the picture. I think I did a pretty good, eventually I will read crochet pattern. The pattern I used is called Square in a Square from Dly’s Hooks and Yarns.

A sneak preview of my creation.

And Sylar enjoying just being near yarn.

20130203_155328

This project might take me a while, especially since I am buying yarn a roll at a time as I get coupons for my craft stores. I want it to stay affordable of course. Since I am joining as I go I will probably have to pause when I get to a color in my pattern that I don’t have. If that happens I will go back to putting a border around my little foot runner blanket.

Granny Square Blanket

My new hobby for 2013 is crocheting. I’ve knitted but always tired from it and it took me so much effort to finish a project. I’ve wanted to crochet and so my husband and his mom and sister got me started with a variety of crocheting kits and yarn for Christmas. Thanks guys!

Easiest way to learn in watching YouTube videos. I got the hang of granny squares and I am now going to town on making my first throw blanket. What do you think? I think I want to reupholster that ottoman that our neighbors got rid of. That is my first though. Haha

First blanket

It is such an great hobby that I enjoy doing while I watch TV or a movie at home. I have this terrible habit where I cannot sit for long and I want to clean or fold laundry or answer e-mails or something while I am watching TV. Chris hates it. He does not mind me crocheting though. He even uses it at an incentive when he wants me to watch a movie that I am not quite sure about. “You can crochet while we watch it”. Then I say yes, how lame am I?

I have gotten further in two weeks of crocheting then I ever did with knitting. I think that is why I enjoy this better. I see the results. I’ve seen even more results because I have been ‘joining as a go,’ so instead of a pile of granny squares to turn into a blanket I am making a blanket and adding squares.

When I am done with this one I had an great idea that making granny squares could turn into Tetris blocks. I will make a blanket just for Chris. I”ll make blankets for everyone. beware ;) .

New Year’s Resolutions

We rang the New Year with good friends at their house down the street. It is truely the best way to ring it in. I hope that next year it will be our house.

newyear

I cannot believe it is already a new year. A lot has happened in 2012. Chris graduated and I earned a promotion. Friends got married and we bought a new car. We continued working on the house and took our first cruise. I cannot even remember all the things that happened this year so I am going to change that for next year. I have already cleaned out a jar so that we can write on a post-it, the great events so that next new years we can be reminded,

My other resolution for 2013 is to be a better blogger, My goal is to post at least twice every month and I will write it on my calendar if that’s how I go about doing it. Here is my first post for 2013. I can’t want to see what this year holds.

Ribbon Christmas Tree

It is so warm down here that it makes it hard to make it feel like Christmas. I add new decorations to my collection ever year by buying new ones right after Christmas but this year I wanted to make something. I was not sure what, because I did not want to spend excessive amounts at the craft store, which is easy for me. I decided to visit JoAnn’s and it was just my luck, all Christmas ribbon was 70% off. I could make a ribbon Christmas tree. For less then $20 I bought all kinds of ribbon as well as a Styrofoam cone and some pins.

If you want to keep each layer the same type of ribbon, make sure that you buy two of each roll. In order to not waste ribbon, I made some layers by varying two different patterns.

So the other night while my husband and I sat on the couch watching old seasons of Fringe, the cats and I went to work on our ribbon tree. I cut ribbons to lengths that would allow them to form loops and pinned them to the cone with pins.

Two layers through I thought that I should have covered the cone in a green fabric but did not want to take out all the pins I have places so instead I ran a piece of ribbon around the cone on top of each layer. I think Sylar was very upset that I took a short cut instead of doing it right. It is my only explanation for his face in this picture.

The next layer was when it hit me to just pin a little further from the ends. I think Sylar was pleased with me for figuring this out so he calmed down.

Ribbon tree 002

I really loved the ribbons that I was able to find and the red and green through out was cool. Perhaps next time I can make a blue and white one.

Ribbon tree 003

I love the way it adds to my little mantle display. Ribbon tree 004Merry Christmas!

Tough Mudder

Last weekend I was a lucky spectator at a Tough Mudder event. The name really says it all. It is tough and you leave covered in mud. Of course at our Florida location the mud was not the red clay, thick a gooey mud that comes to mind but rather more of a murky water from mixing with dirty sand. It still was messy.

This was my husband’s first long run and he did it with his friend and his friend’s sister. Both his team mates have done a Tough Mudder before. Jackie wore my Minnie Mouse costume that I made last Halloween. Chris made a pretty sweet Goofy hat to go with his costume . My sewing skills where put to use on our way to the race as I sewed on Tom’s tail to his shorts. The tail with and orange morph suit, some ears and a collar made him the perfect Pluto. I am also proud to say that pieces of their costumes got lost or ripped in the mud, climbing and electricity but Pluto never lost his tail. Go Team Disney!

The race does not require you to be the fittest or young or skinny. Because it was a team event, there were all types of people participating. I think one has to be fit to be a spectator though, especially if your team is one that runs the whole way. I think I walked and ran at least half the distance to meet them with the camera at as many obstacles as possible. My feet were worn out and my unfit me worked up a sweat. Even with the few shortcuts I am surprised I beat them to as many as I did because I always say ‘I do not run’. Well I might be running now. Next time they want me in the course instead of running along with the camera. I suppose I will get to look like this hot mess instead.

I am fairly strong from growing up as my father’s child and being expected to handle what a male child would typically handle. Also the run is all about comradeship, so I would be helped by my teammates or anyone else for that matter, if I could not complete an obstacle on my own. Even the electricity doesn’t scare me that much, but I have to run. I can run and I can run fast but I don’t run far. I’m a little scared.

Chris and I have taken a run with the dog three times since the race. I’m not willing to say how far I’ve made it yet, because it is nothing in comparison to how far I would need to go. I will say however, that each night I pushed myself past my point of wanting to stop (which was like 10 steps in, joking). I also pushed myself further each night. Last night I ran twice as far as I ran the very first night. Once again it is not that far, but I’m impressed. The dog wore out before me. Next time I will run even further. I just have to keep controlling my breathing because my legs do have the strength to go on. If I make it to five miles by New Years they I will agree to put in our registration for my first race. I can train for the rest of the distance all the way up to the race. We will just have to see.

Wish me luck.
